Review: Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz (Spoiler-Free)
~ Thank you so much to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review! ~ What were miracles, but science that man didn't yet understand? And didn't that make it all the more miraculous that the secrets of the universe were out there, codes one might decipher if smart enough, tenacious enough? This was such a gruesome delight. It really made me realize I'm a YA historical fiction hoe, especially when it comes with a bit of mystery. Dreamland B

Review: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (Spoiler-Free)
dnf @73% Let me be the beacon to tell you—it's okay to dnf books/series even when you're thousands of pages into them!! It's also okay to love specific books in series and only keep/reread those ones (I'm looking at you The Assassin's Blade, Throne of Glass, and Queen of Shadows.) This book is just too damn long and I lost too much interest. I loved how this series started—with an assassin and a game to work by the king's side. And I do love how it evolved over time, but for

Review: The Grownup by Gillian Flynn (Spoiler-Free)
Gillian Flynn does it again. Did this hit as hard as Gone Girl? No way, but I wasn't expecting it to. Flynn's writing is just as superb, I just wasn't as big a fan of the ending. It does leave room for the reader to reflect, and I find both the premise and the ending memorable, but I think it could have been executed in a more creative way (the ending) instead of so much monologue exposition. Overall this was fun, very well-written prose-wise, and it has solidified my interes

Review: A House at the Bottom of a Lake by Josh Malerman (Spoiler-Free)
'No hows,' James said into the helmet. 'No whys.' This. This book. Someone needs to make it into an A24 movie immediately. Let me start off by saying that this book isn't going to be for everyone. But it was for me. If you liked I'm Thinking of Ending Things or House of Leaves, it might be for you too. Also if you liked the writing style/themes of The Body by Stephen King. This is the niche type of horror I love. Psychological, strange, unexplained, but fascinating. The kind

Review: Five Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards (Spoiler-Free)
Call me crazy, but I had so much fun with this. If I'm being honest, the ending was 3.5 star quality, but my enjoyment of this book is way worth rounding up my stars to 4. This was one of those tense, action-packed thrillers that just keeps you flipping the pages. I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary, and I didn't get that, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey all the same. Five Total Strangers definitely delivers on its premise, and if you're looking for something super

Review: Near the Bone by Christina Henry (Spoiler-Alert)
Well, this wasn't what I was expecting. I was very tempted by those final 70 pages or so to tack on an extra 0.5 stars, but the more I've thought about it, the more I found problems with this story. Don't get me wrong, the second half was really great, definitely 4.5 star worthy in how gripping it was, but overall a lot about this book I would have done differently, so I'm settling on a 4 star rating. As I said, this book was not what I was expecting. The synopsis is very mis
