Review: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (Spoiler-Free)
You cannot blame me for being what I am. Without me, nothing would end. Nothing could end. And therefore nothing could grow. I am life. Would you fight life itself?
Oh! So I think I was actually just reborn!
It's been a few days since I've finished this trilogy, and I'm still not sure I possess the words to review it. Going into this series, my first experience with Brandon Sanderson, I was under the impression that it would be fairly contained. I knew it was part of the Cosmere universe, but I thought it would be a pretty standard, albeit great, heist/kingdom trilogy. Nothing could have prepared me for how much the scope expanded.
Like, I was strapped in for a ride that would maybe encompass a few wars. Maybe some new creatures. But then all of a sudden we were reshaping planets and ascending to literal godhood. That's why I'm at a loss for words.
I honestly don't feel incredibly connected to any of the characters in this series, but the trajectory of each of their arcs are undeniably well-crafted. So even though I'm not as emotionally attached to these characters as I am with other series, I can't help but be in awe of how every string ties together.
I'm now sooooo curious about the rest of the Cosmere. I just want to explore every part of this world (or rather, universe). Wish me luck on this journey of (truly) epic proportions.
