Review: The Wicked King by Holly Black (Spoiler Alert)
** spoiler alert **
My immediate reaction to finishing this book: No. N-O. NOOOOOOOOOO. How could it end like this??? How am I supposed to wait a whole year, AGAIN, for the sequel and resolution to that CLIFFHANGER?????????? ...so, let's just say that I will not recover any time soon. I want to keep this short and sweet because there are thousands of reviews out there that put the feelings of this book into a much better arrangement of words. He looks up at me with his night-colored eyes, beautiful and terrible all at once. "For a moment," he says, "I wondered if it wasn't you shooting bolts at me." I make a face at him. "And what made you decide it wasn't?" He grins up at me. "They missed." Let's just say that Holly Black has mastered the art of giving us a little only to steal it right back away. I still love the dynamic between Jude and Cardan and I honestly have no words to describe that whole relationship. I don't know how this book possibly topped its predecessor, but it did. I went in hoping for more murder, romantic tension, betrayal, and scheming, and that is 100% what I got. Sometimes reading about people being bad just feels so good. "You want to know what I did to make him raise me up?" I ask, leaning toward her, close enough that she can feel the warmth of my breath. "I kissed him on the mouth, and then I threatened to kiss him some more if he didn't do exactly what I wanted." "Liar," she hisses. "If you're such good friends," I say, repeating her own words back to her with malicious satisfaction, "why don't you ask him?"
