Review: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor (Spoiler-Free)

Okay so here’s the thing: The first 75% of this book could have been condensed to probably 100-200 pages rather than 400 and that really ruined my excitement for this book for a while. It just dragged for so long that I was at some points even considering DNFing it. However, mixed in with the boring descriptions was some real 5 star material, so I kept reading. And I’m glad I did! After the first 75% or so I started to get really into the book (thanks to the audiobook too). And after that ending I want to read the sequel! I just hope that it doesn’t drag as much as this one did. I really LOVED the characters in this book, especially Lazlo. He basically lives every reader’s dream by living in a library and then discovering that magic is real. I mean how could it get better than that? I don’t really know how to accurately describe the rest of my feelings for this book; they’re just... mixed. Some parts were a solid 5, while some parts dragged for so long I was thinking of DNFing and giving the book a 2. Overall, I’m glad that I powered through the lush descriptions, and I’m excited to read the sequel!

Song I was reminded of while reading: Glitter in the Air
