Re-read 10 years later and yup... this is still THE book for children!!
I vividly remember reading When You Reach Me for a middle school book club and having my mind blown by the ending. It's so memorable that my friends and I praise it to this day.
What I remembered less vividly about this book however, are the realistic, everyday chapters that convey so well what it feels like to be a tweenage girl. Packed within less than 200 pages are discussions on class, compassion, communication, and even the constructs of time itself. There is so much value for children to find in this novel, and on top of that, an exciting mystery.
I didn't know if it would hold up from my initial read in 2015, but I would definitely still recommend this book to young readers!
