Review: My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (Spoiler-Free)

The chronicles of me reading this book went a little like this:

first 40 pages- Intriguing! We love a female friendship! How on Earth does Grady Hendrix know exactly what it feels like to be a fourth-grade girl?

middle of the book- Help me. I am so bored. We all know Gretchen is possessed, it is quite literally the title of the book. OH GOD THAT WAS THE GROSSEST THING I'VE EVER READ (seriously, never mention tapeworms to me again. It's worse than anything you're imagining) GIVE ME MORE. He in fact, did not give me more. I'm bored again.

last 5 pages- Am I about to shed a tear right now?

This had the potential to be good, or even great. But it just wasn't. It was so incredibly slow, and not in a way that even built to anything. I'm a big fan of the ending message, but that does not make up for the fact that the entire book was so boring. The horror elements were definitely scary, but they were few and far between. I read this planning on watching the movie but now I don't really want to... Anyway, I'm glad I got this off my TBR, but it was definitely a disappointing read for spooky season.
