Review: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Spoiler-Free)
As a female high school senior I felt as though reading this book was a rite of passage. I've never seen the movies, and had never read the books. Nearly everyone in the YA community has strong opinions on this series, and I had none. To be honest, I still don't really. That's what my thoughts on this book boil down to: I thought it was comical, but ultimately got repetitive. So, no, I don't have a vehement hatred for everything Twilight, but I don't think I'll remember anything that happened in this book by tomorrow. I'm still glad I read it while being a teenager, and it kind of made me want to watch the movies for the sake of a good laugh. (And Robert Pattinson is a plus, even if Edward really isn't lol) I get why middle schoolers love this and I get why adults hate it. I kind of just fell in the middle, indifferent. Sure, it is problematic and ridiculous if read in a literal sense, but you have to keep in mind that this isn't supposed to be realistic. It's a book about vampires, not a guide to ideal teenage relationships. Maybe I'll get a good laugh out of the movies one day, but for now, I must bid adieu to this milestone in my life.
