Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Today I will be doing the Unpopular Opinions Book Tag! This tag was originally created by The Book Archer on YouTube. Please remember that if I didn't like a book/series that you love, that doesn't mean that you can't like it. In fact, I wish I could have liked it as much as other people did. Let's get on with the questions!

Q: What is a popular book or series that you didn't like?

A: I read The Selection by Kiera Cass about two years ago, and I really didn't enjoy it. I just did not like America Singer, didn't care about Prince Maxon, and overall thought the plot was pretty unoriginal.

Q: What is a popular book or series that everyone seems to hate, but you love?

A: A lot of people hate The Maze Runner books, and while I did not want to read the rest of the series, I did really like books one and two.

Q: What is one love triangle where the main character did NOT end up with the person that you wanted them to end up with?

A: [SPOILER WARNING FOR THE GRISHA TRILOGY]:

Alina ended up with the wrong person. Nikolai and Alina forever <3 Mal can leave.

Q: What is a popular book genre that you hardly reach for?

A: I don't read very much historical fiction, even though I do usually enjoy it. I need to pick up some more soon.

Q: What is a popular or beloved character that you do not like?

A: Nicholas Carter. I hated him so much that I just had to look up his name because I blocked it out of my memory. He is the love interest in the Passenger duology by Alexandra Bracken. And while I didn't really like the book anyway, I did relate to Etta as a character, but I COULD NOT STAND Nicholas.

Q: What is one popular author that you can't seem to get into?

A: Cassandra Clare. WAIT BEFORE YOU KILL ME, and let me explain myself. So I have read The Infernal Devices trilogy after DNFing City of Bones. I did enjoy the ending of each book, but I was always bored throughout most of the middle. HOWEVER, I will be trying to read The Mortal Instruments again in the future, and hope to enjoy it like everyone else seems to.

Q: What is one popular book trope you are tired of seeing?

A: The Chosen One book trope gets on my nerves. I am perfectly fine with a main character having a hidden power, or finding out a secret about themselves, but when they magically find out that they are the strongest being in all the lands it comes across as frustrating and too convenient.

Q: What is a popular series that you have no interest in reading?

A: The Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin. I don't watch the show, and I don't really have any interest in it. Perhaps I'll change my mind in the future.

Q: The saying goes, "the book is always better than the movie," but what movie/tv adaptation is better than the book?

A: If I Stay by Gayle Forman was an eh book. However, I really enjoyed the movie and I felt like the plot was easier to get through in a shorter amount of time rather than having to trudge through the whole book.
