Review: The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas (Spoiler-Free)

I need some time to process. This was so good. I cannot compute. My name is Celaena Sardothien, and I will not be afraid. I really enjoyed this collection of novellas- so much so that I don’t really know how to put it into words. This is the first book by Sarah J. Maas that I’ve read, and after finishing I was so desperate for more that I’ve already started the next book in the series (which is great too so far btw!). The first story in this book to me was a little basic, but still enjoyable so I expected the rest of the novellas to go that way as well. I am so glad that I was wrong. They just kept getting better and better and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series takes me. I love Celaena as a protagonist and I enjoy being able to love her and being able to identify her flaws because she can as well. She’s a strong and especially ruthless girl- even as an assassin so that’s saying something- but she also is compassionate and you can tell that she cares about others. Speaking of caring about others, let’s talk about Sam Cortland for a minute here. I love Sam so much and his character is just both adorable and brutal all at the same time. I enjoyed the romance between him and Celaena, but I felt like some of it was a bit rushed or forced, and some of the “romantic” scenes just felt a bit off or out of nowhere to me. However, I still really liked them as a couple. Overall, I loved this book so much and I can’t wait to read more in this series. Why did I wait this long to start??? P.S. why does Sarah J. Maas use the phrase “armed to the teeth” so much?? Lol
